HOWTO: Receive free SMS or email notifications of our events

Did you know that you can get a TXT reminding you of our events? For free? Cool, huh?

To do this, you need to make use of Google Calendar.

  1. Go to http://calendar.google.com/

  2. If you already have a Google account (such as a Gmail or Google Reader account) enter your user name and password, then click Sign In. If you don't yet have a Google account, click the Create an Account button and follow the instructions.

  3. Once you're in Google Calendar, look on the left hand side of the screen. Just below the mini calendar, you'll see an Add button. Click it, then choose Add by URL.

  4. In the box labelled Public Calendar Address, enter http://doesnot.tk/DoesNotTK.ics then click Add.

  5. In the calendar list on the left, you should see the new calendar. Click the drop down arrow to the right of it, then click Notifications. Click the Set up your mobile phone to receive notifications link.

  6. Select your country and enter your mobile number with the country code prefix. For instance, if your New Zealand number is 0215551234 enter +64215551234. Click Save.

  7. When you receive your Verification Code as a TXT message to your phone, enter it in the box, then click Finish Setup.

  8. Finally, go back to the Notifications screen by clicking on the drop down arrow beside the calendar name and choosing Notifications, then click Add a reminder. Select SMS, and the amount of time before each event that you wish to be reminded, then click Save.

Of course, if you'd prefer to receive email notifications instead, skip steps 5 through 7, then choose Email instead of SMS.

Happy gaming!
